Abstract
This paper aims to clarify framing methods of the roof frame in different localities in Japanese premodern farmhouses. Analyzing the members supporting the ridge piece, 10 supporting types are extracted from major three supporting systems: post-framing, sasu-framing, and purlin-framing. Seeking the earlier premodern farmhouses in each district, 660 houses are selected including not only important cultural assets but also minor ones which have been referred by reports in each prefecture. Applying the types of roof frame to these premodern farmhouses in the whole country except Hokkaido and southern archipelagoes, it's clarified that some post-framing systems and peculiar sasu-framing system using principal rafters are ranged in the particular regions respectively.
