Abstract

This paper analyzed the current limiting characteristics of a transformer type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) with two secondary windings. In case of having a common connection point in the secondary winding, the transient current limiting characteristics due to the double quench of the two models according to the installation location of the superconducting element were compared and analyzed. When the fault current magnitude is large, the fault current is limited by the occurrence of double quench in both models. In the previous SFCL with a common connection point, the quench time and the voltage generation interval time of the two superconducting elements were short, and the proposed SFCL confirmed that the instantaneous power and cumulative energy of the superconducting element were small.
