Abstract
he article examines the case of the annulment of a marriage between Mademoiselle de La Force and Charles de Briou, which took place in 1687. Although contemporaries often discussed this scandalous incident, its causes are not completely clear. But the situation becomes more intelligible if we look at it from the point of view of the family strategy of different clans and the court policy of Louis XIV.
