Abstract

Settlement and heaving of building and ground under construction at four construction sites were measured by differential settlement gauge (at Kumamoyo, Saizyou, Ikebukuro and Nagoya). The measurement results were simulated by means of multi-layer elastic theory, finite element method, and the multi-layer group pile equation. The estimated moduli of elastisity for the grounds were higher than the values by estimating method used up to this time for calculation of settlement of building, although they were reduced as strains became larger. The correlations between estimated modulus of elasticity and that of PS logging, N-value, and unconfined and triaxial compression test were obtained as function of strain. A prediction method of settlement using the elastisity equations was indicated and calculations by the method agreed with measurements at the construction sites.
