Abstract

Icy snow which falls from transmission line sometimes breaks roofs of houses. To prevent accumulation of snow on the transmission line, several methods have been developed. The utilization of heat generation by core loss of magnetic materials around transmission line has been expected as one of promising methods. Fe-Al alloy sheets containing 1.5 ~6.5 wt. Al with 2 ~4 mm thickness were proved to show high core loss in the commercial frequency. Eddy current loss was found to play a significant role of core loss by solving partial differential equation related to magnetic field and flux density. Furthermore the transmission conductor wound with high core loss Fe-Al alloy wire was calculated to generate 6.8 times larger heat than the conventional one without this Fe-Al alloy in the case of low current.
