Abstract

Cavities can be generated in zirconia-based ceramics during tensile deformations. It is inferred that the cavitation influences strength, fracture toughness and so on of the zirconia ceramics after the tensile superplastic deformation. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the relationship between the superplastic deformation and cavitation behaviors of the zirconia-based ceramics. In this study, we have carried out a high temperature tensile test of 3Y-TZP at a temperature of 1723K in the air and at an initial strain rare of 3.33×10^<-3>s^<-1>.We have so examined the method how to reduce the cavities particularly flat cavities. In this paper, the reduction method for the cavities is discussed in some detail.
