Abstract

The caffeine content of anther callus was 0.05mg/g and that of stem callus, 0.64+0.13mg/g. In stem callus 83.7% of the produced caffeine was released into the medium. Theobromine was also released and its content was 0.36 μg/ml. This value corresponds to 0.015 of caffeine concentration in the medium. Catechin content in the stem callus and anther callus was very low, and only (-)-epicatechin and (-)-epigallocatechingallate were detected in the stem callus. Theanine content in the anther callus was about 1.6_??_2.9%. This value was almost the same as that of tea anther. Theanine content in stem calluses was extremely low and was about 1% of theanine content in tea stems.
