Abstract

The following study was composed as a result of an academic research into a delicate topic that has so far been virtually unexplored-the issue of eroticism and sexuality in the Russian prose. First of all, the author traces back the stages of lifting the ban on the erotic themes in the Russian literature within the framework of the literary development. The artistic experience of well known as well as not renowned prose writers and their works of art is dealt with in order to give a full picture of the Russian literary eroticism in the 20th century. The study mainly focuses on the analysis of the forms and aesthetic metamorphoses of the “erotic wave”which reflected the social and political changes in Russia at the end of the 20th century. The author also looks into the transformation of erotic themes as well as the sexual and erotic imagery in a variety of poetics, styles, and linguistic discourses.
