Abstract

To investigate how the twist of constituent Yarns affects the formation of crinkles on worsted fabrics of highly twisted yarns in the finishing process, we made an apparatus that enabled to detect simultaneously the untwisting touque and shrinking force generated in a single yarn immersed in hot water. From the results obtained by experiment using this, we could verify the following fact : in the finishing of high twist worsted, the constituent yarns undergo tortional buckling due to the untwisting torque released by hot water treatment and form spirals in phase to cause wavy crinkles on fabrics ; and the shapes assumed by the yarns in the fabrics can be simurated approximately based on the crimped and buckled form of the weft yarn that are numerically estimated from the ratio of shrink in weft and the warp yarn density.
