Abstract

PTR (platelet transfusion refractoriness), NAIT (neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia) and PTP (post transfusion purpura) are caused by platelet-specific alloantibodies or HLA alloantibodies. A serologic test for platelet-specific antibodies requires platelet antigen panels.Although Shibata and Kim developed platelet antigen panels for the MPHA (mixed passive haemagglutination) test using platelet soluble antigens which were extracted from platelets in saline, the platelet antigens in HPA-2 system (HPA-2a, 2b) could not be extracted by saline. In the present experiment, the MPHA test was used to detect the platelet antigens extracted by a sucrose saline solution. The extraction of the platelet antigens in HPA-2 system were possible using a 3% sucrose saline solution. The test also revealed that platelet-specific antigens (HPA-1a, HPA-2a, HPA-2b, HPA-3a, HPA-4a, HPA-5a, Naka) were present in the 3% sucrose saline solution.
