Abstract

In addition to their function as clothing, uniforms are symbols that can visually communicate esprit de corps and togetherness. Since preference is inherent to the environment, uniform types vary, and constantly evolving and expanding. The uniform of the Korea Coast Guard is moving as a visual medium, and it has a communicatory function that can leave a lasting impression. <BR> The westernization of clothing in South Korea began during the Enlightenment Period of the Joseon Dynasty, and the military and police were the first to adopt western-style uniforms. uniforms have not only influenced the proliferation of Western-style clothing in the past, but they also prominent features of the daily lives of modern civilians.<BR> Among the law enforcement groups of Korea style the earliest due cultural exchange the other countries. As the role and status of the Korea Coast Guard continually increase, it would be meaningful to investigate the historical evolution of the uniform for the Korea Coast Guard.<BR> Previous studies have been based only on historical sketches, designs of Korea Coast Guard uniform system, and strategies to improve functionality none have been conducted on historical development of the uniform system itself. Furthermore, while most studies have focused on the police uniform system, none have been conducted on the Korea Coast Guard uniform system other than on the designs.
