Abstract

The short brace has been prescribed for treatment of 48 idiopathic scoliotic patients with curves meaasured 27.7 degrees on an average. The initial correction rate was 53.8per cent. In curve types, initial correction was good in the thoraco-lumbar and lumbar types, however, it was poor in the upper curve of the double primary type.Fifteen patients, 10 thoraco-lumbar and 5 lumbar types, were treated by the short brace alone. The final correction rate was 27.2per cent. Significant correlation was recognized among the respective Cobb's angles in pre-bracing, initial and final corrections. We conclude that the short bracing was effective for treatment of thoraco-lumbar and lumbar idiopathic scoliosis with Cobb's angle less than 40 degrees at pre-bracing especially less than 30 degrees.
