Abstract
Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (IHI) started R&D of MCFC since 1984 as a part of national project. In the project, 1, 000kW demonstration plant was already completed successfully. Moreover, IHI has been developing 300kW class plants for practical use, and the commercial plants are now demonstrating. Also, more stable LiAlO2 as electrolyte support material and new cathode, which coated with MgFe2O4 layer, were developed to improve reliability of MCFC for long-term operation. Recycling technology for MCFC was also studied to reduce cost and protect better environment in near future, and usefulness of the recycling technology for practical use of MCFC was made clear by Life Cycle Assessment technique.
