Abstract

The relationship between the density of Thrips palmi adults on cucumber plants and the number of adults trapped by sticky traps in a plastic greenhouse was analysed in order to determine whether sticky traps can be used for estimating the density of the adults. When a sticky board (5cm in width) was set from the ground to the top of the greenhouse (2.2 m in height), the height of the part of the board where the maximum number of adults was trapped was positively correlated with the height of the leaf on which adults predominated. The number of adults trapped by a white sticky cylinder or blue sticky ribbon was positively correlated with the density of the adults per plant. It was considered from the above results that the sticky traps can be used for estimating the relative abundance of T. palmi adults.
