Abstract

In this paper I will explore the tasks and its guiding principles needed in Christian education for children in church and examine the issues that face us is the change of paradigm in education and culture that has taken place over the past 150 years. The task of educating children takes place through active engagement with the world. That engagement is in fact the embodiment of one’s own life-world, and critical reflection upon it takes place in light of the kingdom of God.<BR> The immediate future of children is uncertain. The earth’s environmental crisis will have significant consequences for their future life. We have to acknowledge the shaking of the foundations of the life system. In fact, each living thing is the result of a unique combination of matters and other living things. But living things interact within their communities in a variety of ways. Although many things we see may be in competition with one another for their energy and material needs, under the surface there is also an amazing amount of cooperation. This is the secret of life in God’s creation. The earth, the world and the future of children are in trouble, and people are the main cause of the problem. Thus I argue that there must be a solution in Christian child education. Children have to grasp how their own lives are directly connected to and supported by those life systems; and understand how they are going to have to change their lifestyles in order to live more in harmony with those systems.
