Abstract

Until now many researchers said that Soseki Natsume was loved by his real mother, Chie and he has lived longing for her in his life. But there is no image of lovely mother in the literature of Soseki except for Bochan. Most of the image of mother in the literature of Soseki are dark and doubtful. Only Bochan described the ideal mother who loves his son, but the woman who filled the role of the mother was not Bochan’s real mother but a housemaid in his house. The housemaid Kiyo loves Bochan as if she were his true mother. Bochan felt that his parents were not his family member but only Kiyo was his supporter and his family member who will go to the same grave in the future. So it may say that Soseki exposed his birth problem to the people through Bochan. His pain and agony is concealed in this novel. This is the expression of his sadness to his parents who had abandoned him at his birth and he satisfied his resentment through these writings. As a same way Sunaga was not a real son of his mother but a son who was born between his father and housemaid in Higansugimade. The loneliness who does not have a real mother is also described in this novel. Kokoro and Garasudononaka also agree to these contents. This means that Soseki could not feel Chie as his real mother and he lived the world of mental picture af if he were an orphan all his life.
