Abstract

In modern linguistics, there is variation of different terms for consideration of mixed texts. The study aims to present a classification of terms denoting texts in the formation of which different codes, different ways of perception, i.e. linguistic, visual, audial and gesture, interact. The analysis of publications on the research topic indicates that different scholars choose between the terms 1) “creolised”, 2) “polycode” and 3) “multimodal”. Scientific novelty lies in comparing and analysing the conditions for the use of these terms both in Russian studies and in foreign literature. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the types of relations among the components of the text and the dependence of how these relations are understood on the choice of terms with which they are described and analysed. As a result, it has been shown that each of the three terms has its own emphasis and is quite compatible with the rest when describing mixed texts.
