Abstract
PET(polyethylene terephthalate) resin is a polyester manufactured by the polycondensation reaction of terephthalic acid(TPA) and ethylene glycol(EG) or dimethyl terephthalate(DMT) and EG. The PET chips are used to produce polyester fiber, polyester films, PET bottle or engineering plastics. Two different PET production systems are compared using life cycle assessment(LCA) and analyzed from the environmental point of view. The unit processes that have to be improved for a better production system have been identified.
