Abstract

The Veneziano amplitudes for ππ → ππ and πK → πK are used to extrapolate the results of current algebra from the soft pion or soft kaon limit when any pair of mesons are taken off the mass shell. The SU(3) × SU(3) symmetry breaking theory of Gell-Mann, Oakes and Renner, is assumed and predictions made for the normalisations of the Veneziano amplitudes and resonance decay widths, the magnitudes of matrix elements of current algebra σ terms, the value of the symmetry breaking parameter c, F K/ F π . Expressions are found for the K l3 form factors from the Veneziano amplitudes for πK → πK and πK → πK A. It is shown that current algebra cannot be similarly applied to the Veneziano amplitude for KK → KK.
