Abstract
This study considers Juliane House’s (2015) translation quality assessment (TQA) scheme for Korean-to-English literary translation evaluation. Unlike typical literary translation evaluations, House’s scheme is based on Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) framework, which involves functional aspects of language. This case study is the first to utilize House’s TQA for Korean-to-English translated texts. The results reveal that House’s (2015) TQA has more advantages than disadvantages in terms of evaluating the English translation of Korean texts. We are able to utilize the functional aspects of the texts in cultural and situational contexts as the evaluative elements such as field, tenor, and mode using corpus analysis.
