Abstract

The article is devoted to studying the symbolic saturation of the colour term ‘green’. The purpose of the work is to identify universal and national-unique metaphorical meanings of this colour lexeme in the idiomatic worldview of the English language. The research novelty lies in comparing the symbolism of green colour in the English idioms with the most typical interpretations in other cultures. The results have shown that the major portion of the universal symbolism of green colour is represented in the English idioms. The revealed discrepancy and unique associations are caused by the national originality of the English culture.
