Abstract
Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common salivary gland malignancy. It may arise in other organs such as larynx, esophagus, breast, lung, pancreas, thyroid. MEC of the thyroid gland is extremely rare with 47 cases reported in the world literature to date. We present one case of primary mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the thyroid with invasion of trachea. MEC of the thyroid gland occurs most often as a low grade carcinoma, but we experienced a case of aggressive presentation. Therefore we review this case along with a discussion and suggest the need for aggressive multimodal therapy for MEC of the thyroid. (J Clinical Otolaryngol 2019;30:284-288)
