Abstract

A dermoid cyst is an unusual congenital anomaly, lined by ectodermal squamous epithelium. It contains skin appendages such as hair follicles, sebaceous glands or sweat glands. Only a few cases of dermoid cysts have been reported to occur in head and neck region. The authors have experienced a 29-year-old female with the chief complaint of a painless mass at the left postero-superior auricular area. The enhanced magnetic resonance imaging showed a 1.9 cm × 2.0 cm sized well-circumscribed, cystic tumor at the corresponding region. The mass was surgically removed under local anesthesia and pathologically diagnosed as a dermoid cyst. Thus, we report a very rare case of a dermoid cyst of the postero-superior auricular area with the literature review.
