Abstract

This paper considers the ethnopolitical situation in early mediaeval Tokharistan in the light of the documentary, archaeological and ethnographic evidence. Along with the multitudinous settled population, a number of nomadic groups have been recorded in this region. One of them is identified by the author as Turks — firstly the Karluks (Shakhidon burial ground) while the second group were the Huns (cemetery of Baytudasht I–II).
