Abstract

This paper has reorganized the obligation modality category and we developed the method of analyzing the distinctive functions of ‘必须，要，得，应该’ in each functional category.BR As a first step, we set up a basic characteristic shared by the members of the category. Distinguish between ′Subjective and objective′ and ′Speaker′s behavior control power′, which is used as a concept in the existing research.BR In the second step, we presented ′可以′ which is selected as the boundary mark of categories, is how to be classified into ′the obligation modality category′ and ′permission modality category′.BR As a third step, We presented the distinctive function of the members of the obligation modality category.
