Abstract

Musical tuning presents cultural and social perspectives on music as well as music education. In spite of that, twelve-tone equal temperament is generally taken for granted without any critical deliberation in practical music instruction. This study discusses educational use of musical temperaments in terms of teaching materials. Tuning is generally regarded as any action or process to adjust musical instruments to the correct pitch, but the principles of intervals and scales, furthermore various temperaments show the intimate relations between music developments and their cultural reception. Looking into problems related to musical tuning helps develop a future-oriented paradigm for school music education because this type of approach in music class can effectively highlight the major issue facing our society.
