Abstract
We report two cases of Stewart-Treves syndrome.Case 1: A 78-year-old female had chronic lymphedema on both her right hip and thigh after being treated with an operation and irradiation in her childhood for an unknown tumor on her right hip. She noticed a tumor on her right hip one year ago. Biopsy of the skin lesion revealed angiosarcoma. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for UEA-1 and vimentin, and negative for CD34, factor VIII and keratin. The patient received wide resection after IL-2 local injection. There has been no evidence of the recurrence and metastasis for 10 months after the treatment.Case 2: A 57-year-old female, who had chronic radiation enteritis and lymphedema on her lower abdomen and lower extremities for eight years after being treated with an operation and irradiation for uterine cancer, noticed multiple nodules on her lower abdomen and outer genital region eight months ago. Biopsy of the skin lesion showed angiosarcoma. The tumor cells were positive for UEA-1 and vimentin, partly positive for factor VIII, and negative for CD34 and keratin. Intravenous IL-2 injection was not effective. She died of radiation enteritis 2 months later. [Skin Cancer (Japan) 2003; 18: 56-60]
