Abstract

Introduction. The study employs the concept of “context” in order to examine how various types of reality are interconnected and why they cannot be reduced to each other. The authors rely on the approach of virtual psychology, which understands virtuality psychically not as an epiphenomenon of matter, but as an equal reality in the context of material reality. The study considers the conceptual and theoretical foundations of virtual psychology based on the ideas of the contextual approach. The study aims to 1) form the conceptual and theoretical foundations of virtual psychology; 2) conceptualize the idea of virtual psychology; 3) put forward a contextual definition of reality and justify the need to consider, within the framework of the theoretical provisions of virtual psychology, not only the psyche in the context of physical, social and cultural reality, but also physical reality in the context of the psyche. Materials and Methods. The study applies theoretical analysis and generalization of philosophical, historical, psychological, sociological, cultural and pedagogical literature. Virtual and contextual approaches are the main methodological approaches used in the study. Results. Virtual psychology is described through the prism of conceptual provisions of the contextual approach. Special attention is paid to the substantiation of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of virtual psychology as a new branch of scientific knowledge. The authors for the first time present a contextual definition of reality and justify the need to consider not only the psyche in the context of physical, social and cultural reality, but also physical reality in the context of the psyche within the theoretical provisions of virtual psychology. Conclusion. The article puts forward the following contextual definition of reality: reality is an (active) context for any object, and it is this active context that both generates and changes the object.
