Abstract

As SF₆ gas is designated as a substance that emits greenhouse gases, its use should be gradually reduced or banned. Accordingly, the development of eco-friendly insulating media is urgently required. In this paper, the surface discharge breakdown voltage of various solid insulators was measured in dry air, which is an eco-friendly insulating medium. In addition, the radiated electromagnetic waves emitted during insulation breakdown were measured. As a result, surface discharge breakdown voltage appeared in a linear form. It confirms that the radiation electromagnetic wave of the solid insulation material could be distinguished in the early, middle, and late stages at the time of insulation breakdown. Therefore, by using the results of this paper, it would be possible to use it in the design of electrical equipment using eco-friendly insulating materials.
