Abstract

This article presents a study of the origin, derivation and alteration of the Chinese words with the weak harmony, the feature and specific function of the weak harmony, the relevant views and publications of the linguistic scientists on discussing whether the fifth harmony of the Chinese language is the weak harmony, the role of the weak harmony in the Chinese language speech also the relationship of the weak harmony with lexicology and grammar. Furthermore, we discussed the results of the previous research, the benefit of studying the weak harmony for the Chinese language learners and provided a list of 200 essential words which foreign language learners have to acquire.
