Abstract
The purpose of the study is to compare the parameters of the knowledge economy at the Russian level with the processes taking place at the world level, in order to identify general trends and predict the transformations of socio-economic phenomena. The article examines the characteristics of the knowledge economy: economic freedom; global competitiveness; human development index; innovative activity of the economy; information and communication technologies (ICT); the degree of corruption. The scientific novelty lies in the identification of the ontological essence of the knowledge economy. As a result, the theoretical and practical content of the knowledge economy is revealed, showing the sources and basis of its formation; a comparative analysis of the knowledge economy of the Russian Federation with the level of world practice is performed; the role of higher education in the development of the intellectual capital of the knowledge economy is investigated.
