Abstract
This article presents the findings of the Lexical System of Pinega Dialects project implemented by a team of authors at the Institute for Linguistic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The study of Russian dialects remains a topical issue. New dialect dictionaries continue to appear, presenting the vocabularies of Russian dialects recorded in the past and present but not yet lexicographically described.
Modern dialects are an important source of language history information. Furthermore, different dialects may reflect language evolution in different ways. This description of dialects of the Pinega area adds to our understanding of Linguistics and dialect studies in particular. These dialects are an intriguing research target due to their peripheral geographical location and language contacts with Finno-Ugric languages.
The release of Pinega Dialect Dictionary will help clarify certain issues and aid compiling other similar dictionaries.
