Abstract

In recent years, considerable attention has been paid to the spread of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, disinfectants, and antiseptics. There are few effective antimicrobial drugs left, the creation of new ones requires significant costs. The WHO defines bacteriophages as a "new therapeutic approach" as an alternative in the fight against bacterial pathogens. Undoubtedly, healthcare organizers, epidemiologists and clinicians currently need an up-to-date assessment of the evidence regarding the benefits, efficacy and safety of bacteriophage therapy, as well as the use of phages for the control and prevention of infections (for example, in a complex of anti-epidemic measures, biological disinfection).
