Abstract

Loading tests were conducted to capture the structural behavior of connection panel and subassemblage frame, which consist of connection between high-strength concrete-filled square tubular steel column and steel beam. The connection panel is reinforced with an internal diaphragm and involves a diaphragm with large polygonal opening to improve concrete packing into the connection. As a result of the tests, deformation capacity of the connection panel is not affected by width-to-depth ratio of steel tube or strength of materials. Furthermore, the proposed method of analysis appears to reasonably reproduce the behavior of the connection. In this analysis, load-deflection relation of the connection panel is expressed by assuming tri-linear behaviors for steel tube and concrete respectively. Finally, subassemblage frame behavior is represented by superimposing multi-linear models for beam to column connection, CFT column and steel beams.
