Abstract

The article is devoted to studying the interrelations between Delphi sanctuary and Athenian politician Solon. Delphi’s prophecies addressed to the reformer are under analysis. The paper tackles the important problem of the attitude of ancient Greece’s most important sanctuary to Solon’s political activity. After analyzing the information of ancient authors and scientific literature the researcher concludes that the sanctuary favoured Solon’s foreign policy - the war for Salamis Island. Special attention is paid to the role of Delphi sanctuary in Solon’s socio-political reforms. The paper concludes that Delphi supported Solon’s autocratic reign.
