Abstract

‘Shuowen Jiezi’ is the earliest character book that analyzes the form and investigates the source of characters on the basis of radical arrangement. The forms and meanings of each part of the characters included in it have always been the focus of academic research. In order to explore the farming culture of ancient Chinese society, this paper takes the 29 Chinese characters in the ‘Tian’ section of ‘Shuowen Jiezi’ as the starting point and sorts them, so as to understand the boundaries of fields in ancient society, the names of different areas of fields, farming methods, land systems and other aspects.
