Abstract

The article traces the development of the kobyz performance traditions in the XX century. The kobyz ancient form and stage-by-stage process of its “Europeanization”, adaptation for orchestral performance are described. The author’s analysis of this process, its positive and negative consequences for art is presented. The history of the creation and functions of the prima-kobyz is revealed. The paper describes national efforts to preserve the ancient kobyz art undertaken as a response to the Europeanization process and based on the educational and pedagogical potential of the Kazakh society.
