Abstract

The purpose of the study is to compare writers’ speech behaviour when they actualise the accentuation strategy in the genres of informal letter writing and the novel while addressing different types of receivers (the individual one and the group one). Scientific originality of the study lies in applying comparative analysis elements to the texts of novels and informal letters within the framework of a pragmalinguistic approach. In the course of the study, the researcher has identified nuances of writers’ speech behaviour, taking into account how actively they actualise speech signals of accentuation in different genres. The attained results have demonstrated that writers’ speech behaviour in the genres of the novel and letter writing is similar, which is accounted for by the influence of authors’ professional speech preferences on their everyday speech.
