Abstract

One of the most interesting and richest part of the cultural heritage of Artsakh is embroidery․ However, it has not been completely examined by art critics. Though, Serik Davtyan, one of the best specialists in Armenian weaving, briefly touched on Artsakh embroidery in his works. The researcher was exploring the art of Artsakh embroidery within Syunik embroidery school, focusing particularly on Artsakh towels. They differ from the embroidered towels of other Armenian schools by their material, techniques, and decorative elements. However, the author did not notice the needlework of a different nature and significance, which were an integral part of the daily life and culture of the people of Artsakh. In regard especially to the rugs dating back to the 18th-19th centuries, the composition of which is formed by images typical of Artsakh dragon carpets. This article aims to present Artsakh embroidery as a phenomenon that has its description and stands out in the Armenian embroidery culture.
