Abstract
The article studies the usage of different meanings of the lexeme “Sanction” in the German language of the XVII-XVIII centuries taking into account eurisemantic character. With the help of etymological analysis, lexicographical and corpus methods, the article examines for the first time the semantic derivation of the German lexeme “Sanction” meanings in diachrony and the examples of its use with contradictory meanings. The lexeme “Sanction” comes from religious discourse, it was borrowed from Medieval Latin through the French language into German. In the German language of the XVII-XVIII centuries “Sanction” is a marker of legal discourse, in which different meanings of the lexeme are identified, conditioned by semantic-derivational development in diachrony.
