Abstract
The article deals with the originality of the XXI century artistic culture, which consists in a fundamentally transitional character: a new vision of the world, new approaches to language and thinking, new self-knowledge of a person in the world, his | her attitude to art and the realities of life are being formed. It is defined that such a process is marked by a search for visual techniques and an experimental attempt to create a new style that could correspond to a new worldview. Particular attention is paid to song lyrics, since song is an art without which people can no longer imagine their life. The object of this study is lyric texts of Rihanna, and the subject is their stylistic organization. The purpose of the study is to describe the properties of the stylistic techniques of Rihanna’s lyrics. The article focuses on the most relevant stylistic figures in Rihanna song lyrics, namely substitutional figures (substitutions), which are divided into figures of quantity and figures of quality. The Rihanna’s language is characterized by the prevalence of quality figures. Among the figures of quality, Rihanna's lyrics are dominated primarily by metaphor and comparison. The functioning of the metaphor in Rihanna’s songs is aimed at enhancing the figurative attractiveness of the lyric text. The source of metaphorization in Rihanna’s lyrics is, in most cases, Medicine and Weapons, where weapons embody destructive means to ruin love, feelings and relationships between lovers, and medicine is for the imagery of a person’s emotional state. In addition to metaphorical reflections, Rihanna’s lyrics are also characterized by comparisons (similes) to highlight the external similarity of the objects being compared. The source sphere for comparisons in Rihanna’s lyrics is Medicine, Weapons, Nature, Jewellery. Hyperbole prevails among figures of quantity in Rihanna’s lyrics. The sphere-agent of hyperbolization is the feeling and property of the speaker or recipient.
