Abstract

Received 15 February 2012; received in revised form May 9 2012; accepted May 10 2012 ABSTRACTAugmented reality can help to improve user's engineering abilities such as perception and deci-sion making in industry field. Therefore we have studied on the maintenance-supporting applica-tions for inspectors previously. The advantage of pre-existing marker system is that the makingand using are easier than any other feature tracking and detection methods. However it must tobe exposed to the sufficient light to be detected by computer image processing. The most ofindustry field is not in clean environment and there are not sufficient light as well. So, the nor-mal marker system is not appropriated for industrial fields. This paper suggests RFID-basedmarker system to improve marker-detection ability in our AR maintenance system. RFID is notimplemented by image processing but it is implemented by electromagnetic induction. There-fore we could more precisely detect markers even if the environment is low-light intensity con-dition.Key Words: Augmented reality, Inspection, Mobile, RFID, Ubiquitous
