Abstract

This study investigated the characteristics of natural spawning and egg quality from indoor-cultured broodstock yellow drum. The size of cultured broodstock was 37.6±3.3 cm in total length and 698.7±214.7 g in body weights, and the relationship between body weight (BW) and total length (TL) was expressed as BW=0.0014TLSUP3.6075/SUP (r²=0.9637). The condition factor (CF) showed the highest value in May (20.3±3.7), then it decreased gradually since May and showed the lowest value in October (15.2±2.2), CF gradually decreased after the spawning period. Natural spawning of cultured broodstock (3 years old) was observed four times from July 9 to 17. It occurred when the water temperature increased and day length decreased, and the egg diameter became smaller as spawning is progressed. The floating rate, egg diameter and oil droplet diameter, hatching rates were 96.86±3.62%, 778±41 ㎛, 255±23 ㎛ and 67.50±24.51%, respectively. The length of newly hatched larvae was 1.62±0.25 mm.
