Abstract

Direct measurement of the magnetocaloric effect ΔTad in the Ni49.3Mn40.4In10.3 Heusler alloy was performed in cyclic magnetic fields with an amplitude up to 8 T. The maximum value of the magnetocaloric effect is - 5.29 K near the martensite – austenite phase transition and 3.39 K at the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition in the austenite phase. It was found that the long-term effect of a cyclic magnetic field results in a noticeable decrease in the MCE value in the region of the magnetostructural phase transition. The recovery of the initial properties occurs after the complete transformation of the sample into the austenite phase. The discovered phenomenon limits the use of these materials in magnetic cooling technology.
