Abstract

I would like to suggest the 2008 Caldecott medal winner The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick might be a new possibility of literature. From almost 20 years ago on, I have tried to find what literature would and should be in the digital age. In the circumstances that a classical novel such as Jane Eyre, unlike graphic novels, webtoons and mangas, is not attractive any more to young college students, I could find in the class this new kind of novel draw even reluctant readers deeper into the pages. In this paper I will investigate why I think The Invention of Hugo Cabret is a new possibility of literature in the digital age. (Hannam University)
