Abstract

Holy Ghevondyants hermitage (also called Ghondik) is one of the famous pilgrimage sites in Artsakh. It is located near the village of Moshkhmat in the Askeran region, on a mountain. The complex consists of a church, a narthex, a bell tower, a cemetery, a pot-like water well, a two-storey guest house and of other monuments. The ornaments on the fragments of the old buildings here are typical of the V-VII & XIII centuries, which witness the old foundations of the building. It is supposed that the church was rebuilt in the XIII century, then completely rebuilt during the reign of the meliks. Inside the church there are two khachkars typical of the XIII century. The desert is also present in the writings of Yer. Lalayan, Gh. Khachatryan, H. Voskyan, S. Barkhudaryan, Sh. Mkrtchyan and others.
