Abstract

Defense acquisition business sectors require a huge investment which mainly counts on taxpayers. Due to its importance in national security matters and economic impact, research efforts on developing theories, investigating incidents empirically, and creating suitable policies should be kept timely and seamlessly. However, we have witnessed that there are limitations in acquiring data for both qualitative and quantitative approaches. In this study, we propose the use of one of promising alternatives in defense acquisition studies: fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis, known for fsQCA in short. This mid-range methodology can identify various conjugation of causal conditions with multiple cases. In the paper, we present key concepts of fsQCA, and discuss two exemplar studies vis-à-vis defense acquisition businesses. We expect that fsQCA can encourage defense acquisition scholars.
