Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review the research trends on dance giftedness in terms of research design, the aims of the study, dance genre, and methodology, and to suggest its implications and future directions. For this, a total of 83 articles were reviewed systematically. Data were conducted by content analysis, frequency analysis, and cross tabs. The results of the study were as follows: (1)Research designs were cross- sectional studies(36.1%) and longitudinal studies(2.4%) except unclassified articles. (2)The purposes of the study were development factors of giftedness(19.3%), giftedness education, and its environments (16.9%), evaluation tools(9.6%), policy and systems(8.4%), personal and environmental factors of giftedness(7.2%), and curriculum(6.0%). (3)Types of methodology were qualitative method(56.6%), quantitative method( 37.3%), review(3.6%), and mixed research (1.2%). (4)Genre showed a high proportion in order of composite(54.2%), foreign dance(24.1%), ballet( 12.0%), social dance(3.6%), modern dance(2.4%), and Korean dance(1.2%). (5)The subjects were about 57% of elementary and middle school students and professionals. (6)Data collections were 66.2% of qualitative data. (7)Many themes including factors of giftedness development( 10.%) were 20.4%, whereas measurement variables including giftedness( 10.2%), self-elevation(2.0%), and decision making(2.0%) were 35.7%. (8)Researchers used content analysis (39.6%)and deductive analysis(8.6%) for qualitative data, whereas others used descriptive statistics(16.4%), factor analysis(11.2%), correlations(6.0%), ANOVA (6.0%). These results were discussed with its implication and future direction.
