Abstract

This study is to look at the results and tasks of the researcho n Namsadang play, which is listed as World Heritage important intangible cultural property by UNESCO. Through this, we will find the research trend and suggest the basis for future research directions. There are 76p apers on Namsadang play, and their publishment was most active in 2006. More than half of the research ws aabout Deol-mi2), one of the 6 sections of Namsadang play. The most actively researched field was the hisotry & theatricals, and the next were play & joke, transmission method, comparative study, music, education & society, aesthetics & idea, values reflected, study on dance, study on characters, and the costume. Among th eintegrated researches, Deol-mi appeared most common(39 papers) while Beo-na3) was dealt only in 1 study, which indicates the needs for multidirectional study. By study method, document research and site research were most common because of the nature of Namsadang play. However, I believe that the document-based quality research or experiment research is necessary to study the concrete details of the dramatic elements or dance motions/methods. In summary, the studies on Namsadang play have been concentrated only on smoe of the 6 sections of the play and has limitation of dealing only with the transmission method or existing appearance. Therefore, it is necessary to build the academic conditions to enable the original and professional studies to influence the whole research field of Namsadang play.
