Abstract

The paper examines the activities of the outstanding Russian landowner, innovator and educator, public figure of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries Prince Alexander Grigoryevich Shcherbatov (1850-1915). The aim of the study is to identify the features of development of A. G. Shcherbatov’s economic and educational work. The scientific novelty of the study lies in highlighting and characterising the main areas of A. G. Shcherbatov’s multifaceted activities. As a result of the study, it has been found that A. G. Shcherbatov attributed the successful conduct of economic and educational work to the support of the rural population, the agrarian innovator analysed the conditions for peasant farming development in Central Russia and proposed specific measures to improve economic work and culture promotion. As a full member and president of the Imperial Moscow Agricultural Society, A. G. Shcherbatov contributed to the elaboration of various scientific and practical issues in the field of agrarian science, as well as to the active introduction of advanced efficient methods into Russian agriculture, at the same time successfully promoting these methods among peasants and land-owning nobles.
